Environmental Statement
Russwood Ltd is based in the heart of Scotland, among the mountains and forests of the Cairngorms National Park. Situated where we are, we have a constant reminder of the impact forestry has on the environment, and we are determined to make that impact as positive as possible.
Wood is a beautiful, versatile material, and its popularity is growing, against a backdrop of growing concern about the environmental impact of the things we do and the materials we use. It’s not just good looks and charm that will ensure that wood plays a leading role in our future, but a number of other factors too:
- Wood is a non-toxic, recyclable material.
- Wood is light, yet strong and easily worked.
- Wood offers good sound absorption properties.
- Wood can be used as bio-fuel at the end of its product life.
- Wood is our only truly sustainable resource for construction.
- Wood is a natural insulator and, as such, reduces energy use for heating.
- Wood reduces the effect of global warming as trees and wood products act as carbon sinks.
- Wood is sustainable and healthy. Every cubic metre stores about 0.8 tonnes of CO2.
We and our suppliers are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified to ensure responsible management of the forests from where our timber is sourced. Any imported timber is also subject to these standards.
Russwood Ltd does more than pay lip-service to environmental concerns. Our showroom is heated by a woodchip boiler, supplied from waste on site and paper from the office is recycled.
We are lucky enough to be based in a stunning part of the country; this always functions as a useful reminder to keep it that way.
