Windygoul School wins environmental plaudits for East Lothian Council

10th December 2008

East Lothian Council was awarded The Carbon Trust Low Carbon Building Award 2008 for the design and project specifications of the new Windygoul Primary School, Tranent.

The judging panel were particularly impressed by the care the Projects Design team at East Lothian Council had taken in the design of the building, with specifications to ensure pupils benefit from a healthy learning environment that makes use of natural ventilation and minimises energy usage.

Natural ventilation and materials together with external “breathing” walls help to provide a toxin-free atmosphere within the school.

Russwood’s Sila A/B Siberian Larch was used in a channelsiding profile. This is  a smooth-finished horizontal board. You can see this profile, RW008, on our Siberian Larch page.

You can read more about the environmental benefits of building with timber in our Environmental Statement and learn about Windygoul’s sister building at Tranent Primary School in a case study here.
