Marshalls House

Marshall House, Newtonmore – Accoya Case Study

Dave and Barbara Marshall’s long-held dream of building their own home has finally become a reality.

Currently in the final stages of completion is “Larch House” in Newtonmore, just up the road from Russwood’s Station Sawmill. The house is a detached two-storey building with integral garage, and state-of-the-art air and ground heat-transfer pumps.

The Marshalls are not only at the cutting edge with their heating system, but also with the exterior cladding of their home. Accoya is a relatively recent addition to Russwood’s cladding range, and Mr and Mrs Marshall were quick to appreciate the advantages of this new modified timber product.

The excellent stability and durability of this product mean that freshening up the paint will seldom be a worry, since Accoya coated with a Gori, Sikkens or Tecnos paint has a quality-assured lifespan of 12 years with opaque paints and 10 years with translucent stains. The Marshalls carefully did their sums and saw that the initial slightly higher cost of Accoya will more than pay for itself in long term maintenance savings.

Mr and Mrs Marshall have incorporated a beautiful sun lounge and a balcony into the design of their home. This means they can enjoy the stunning view of the Glenfeshie hills that their house affords, while relaxing either inside our out.

The vertical profile of the cladding sits elegantly with the tall windows at the front of the house, and while the grey colouring is inconspicuous, it is still bright and welcoming.

We wish the Marshalls many happy years in their new home, and look forward to witnessing how well the coated Accoya stands up to our Highland winters.
