Painting or coating cladding gives a wide range of ways to finish timber cladding in addition to the more traditional weathering.
Timber cladding is growing in popularity as an external finish for many projects, such as: new homes, schools, hospitals and Housing Associations homes.
Increasingly Architects and end customers are choosing to paint or coat their cladding.
At Russwood we believe that the quality of the paint finish is as important as the timber used. To help ensure this quality our factory painting process can be used to apply and dry paint to factory controlled standards.
There are a number of reasons to consider factory applied coating:
- Primer and paint layers are applied to all four sides in a controlled factory environment ensuring correct coat thickness and uniform drying, unlike the traditional methods of applying on site under variable weather conditions.
- The recommended paint thickness of over 100 microns is achieved compared with an on-site applied finished which can vary from 40-75 microns.
- Correctly applied good quality paint significantly increases the life of the coating, with a consequent reduction in maintenance costs.
- We have a pallet of standard colours choices, however virtually any colour can be chosen to special order.
- We have wide ranging experience of painted cladding and can advise on detailing when using coatings
- The paint we use is water based and therefore environmentally friendly.
- We work closely with major paint manufacturers. The paints they produce very high quality and specifically designed to work with external wood cladding, they also offer excellent quality service and technical back up.
'Paint Failure' is a misnomer. It is almost never the paint that fails.
When a paint film lets go prematurely, it is usually caused by one of 3 conditions:
- moisture
- poor preparation
- faulty application
We believe that it is important to control quality at all stages of the process: from the selection of the timber through to storing, milling, paint application and delivery, thus ensuring that our paint does not 'Fail'.
