More Timber Cladding in large projects
Timber cladding is increasingly being specified in major projects. We have seen a particular growth in the large number of schools with which we have been and are being involved. We believe this trend is set to continue with the government committing to school building projects.
Solution to environmental and cost concerns
Timber cladding is being seen as an ideal solution to environmental and cost concerns associated with these projects.

Russwood’s Scotlarch® (Graded Scottish Larch) was a perfect fit with the ecological and budget requirements of the team building the Children’s Garden Nursery.
- Scotlarch® is grown and machined in Scotland, has low embodied energy and is FSC approved.
- Where natural durability is required we use only the heartwood of the larch log thus obviating the need for coating or pressure treating and reducing upfront costs and lifetime maintenance budgets
Windygoul School East Lothian wins environmental plaudits.
Architects – East Lothian Council Architects Department
Russwood’s Sila® Grade A/B (FSC approved graded Siberian Larch) was used to meet the need of a healthy learning environment.
- A smooth finished channel siding Profile achieved a clean modern look.
- As with many councils’ building requirements the cladding was Fire Retardant Treated, this had the added benefit of making cladding even more durable and reducing potential movement.
The school has gone on to win the Low Carbon Building Award 2008 and praise from Alex Salmon.
