Flooring Case Study / Rose Cottage, Dores
Rose Cottage sits on the banks of Loch Ness, and commands beautiful views of that celebrated stretch of water. One vantage point from where the loch and glen can be admired is the upstairs bedroom of the house, seen here.
The room and adjacent shower room are floored with Russwood’s selected 140mm wide Maritime Pine boards. The owners of the house chose painted wood for their downstairs living areas and wanted the contrast and warmth of natural wood for the upper floor of their home.
After considering tiles for the floor of the shower room, they opted for pine there as well as in the bedroom because the look blended so well with the furniture and floor in the neighbouring room, and because it feels so much warmer underfoot than cold ceramics.
The coombed ceiling of the upper floor of the house meant that the owners had to be inventive with storage, and contractor James Dingwall has fitted a range of pine shelves and cupboards around the walls, as well as the pine desk seen in the picture.
The floor was delivered pre-finished with natural clear Osmo oil, as were the doors and windows of the room. Contractor James Dingwall, ever attentive to detail, applied a further two coats of oil to the bathroom floor, to provide even more protection from the moisture that is inevitably created there.
This oil will enhance the bright colour of the floor, so whatever the weather is doing over Loch Ness, at Rose Cottage it’s always sunny inside!
