Technical Details

1. Origin

Russwood solid wood floors are PEFC certified. This, like the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certification, proves that the timber is legally-sourced and sustainable.

2. Quality

Our timber is hand-graded to our high-quality specifications. Every piece is checked prior to dispatch.

3. Dimensions

Lengths ( 80% 170cm+ / 20% 40-165cm)
Edges - Microbevels are only on the two long sides, while all four sides are tongued and grooved.
Widths – the boards are produced in different widths (see individual products for details).
Thickness – the boards are 20mm or 14mm thick.

4. Filling

All boards (excluding Character B) are filled. We use an environmentally-friendly binding agent which is a mixture of wood, water and oil.

5. Finishing

While Seventeenth Century and Chateau boards are pre-finished, all our boards can be finished with Osmo oil. Osmo is a very high quality hardwax oil, which gives excellent protection of the floor. Should any scratches occur, it is easily repaired. Full details of finishing and maintenance products can be found by clicking on this link.

6. Acclimatisation

When the goods are delivered always let the boards acclimatise in the room where they will be laid. You should allow at least 10-12 days, or where underfloor heating will be used, at least 18 days with the heating switched on.

7. Natural movement

An expansion gap of 10mm should be left around the floor in each room to allow the wood to expand. Solid wood flooring is a natural product and changes in the levels of humidity during the summer and winter months will cause it to expand and contract slightly.

9. Sample

A sample serves only as an indication of colour, grading, look and feel of the boards. It should not be considered representative of how an entire floor will look.

10. Smoking

When boards are smoked the tannic acid in the wood reacts with the smoke to create a unique, beautiful colour. Each board reacts individually, so there will be some minor variation in the effect.
