17th Century Flooring is a unique hand-crafted floor which has been aged to create a stunning finish.
Russwood's solid oak 17th Century Floors are ready to lay and require minimal maintenance. We offer a range of colours, from pale natural to deep smoked. The floorboards are finished with Osmo Hardwax Oil with a top layer sealant and are therefore resistant to staining.
These pre-finished boards can be distressed (for example hand-scraped or brushed) to give an aged look, hence the 17th Century name. Each board is hand-finished, giving it a unique appearance.
Smoked 17th Century
When the boards are smoked the smoke reacts with the oak tannins and creates a beautiful deep colour which is actually within the wood. Full sized samples of all the colours available in the 17th Century range are on display at our showroom in Newtonmore.
Finishes
Full details of our extensive range of oils are available in our shop.
Rolled
17th Century flooring can be supplied 'rolled and tumbled' or simply 'rolled' in widths from 100mm to 220mm; the boards are 20mm thick. The rolling process ages the boards and creates a unique finish.
Brushed Finish
The flooring can also be supplied with a brushed finish, where the structurated boards are machine brushed to remove the softer springwood which leaves the harder summer wood with a stunning textured surface.
Cross-sawn
We have added a new cross-sawn finish to our 17th Century aged range. The floor boards are cross-sawn to give the impression of a floor board created using traditional methods.
The boards are also left with slightly raised knots which were a feature of the period, and finally hand aged to give an impression of hundreds of years of use.
