Basket-Weave Parquet
The vast project included two purpose-built rear glazed extensions, a new roof, windows and wiring, plus the loving restoration of the front elevation of the home. When it came to the flooring, the clients presented Helen Lucas Architects with a photograph of an historic floor featuring basket-weave parquet, asking if a similar floor could be recreated. Russwood rose to the challenge, creating a stunning bespoke floor. With its matte, smoked planks and distinctive basket pattern, the floor is a striking complement to the Victorian entryway and winding staircase. Being compatible with under-floor heating, it also met the client’s brief for a more energy-efficient and comfortable living space.
The same planks laid as long board provide a pleasing contrast in the adjacent living spaces, while features such as Japanese ‘shoji’ sliding screens set in tracks in the flooring are an unexpected and interesting twist.
