Oil coating
A coloured finish which highlights the natural beauty of timber; our oil is a water-based system, specifically designed for timber cladding. Available in a select colour range, the result is a desirable matt finish which allows the natural figuring of the timber to be seen. Our oil works by penetrating deep into the wood fibres, offering a beautiful aesthetic whilst protecting against the elements. It is straightforward and simple to maintain.

What to consider
Oil coatings enhance the natural beauty of timber whilst adding colour and protection. Their long-term performance depends on factors such as the timber species, finish, project location and level of exposure to the elements. Maintenance requirements will vary depending on these factors. For the best results, we recommend using oil coatings with modified timbers such as Thermopine®, Abodo® and Accoya®.
Colour options
Choose from our standard colour range, from black, through brown shades and into grey and pale driftwood tones. Our colours are translucent, meaning that the figuring and natural beauty of the timber is visible beneath the coating. Translucent coatings in lower-pigment colours, especially browns, will develop a softer, more muted tone over time, so more frequent recoating is recommended to maintain the original shade.

Application
We’ve been operating our modern in-house coating facility for more than 17 years, giving us full control over the application of our coating systems. Since installing our first coating line in 2009, we’ve continued to invest in and enhance our facilities, expanding our coating capabilities to meet the needs and demands of a wide range of projects.
Factory coating delivers a level of finish that is extremely difficult to match on site. Applied in a clean, dry environment with controlled drying and handling, every board is coated evenly and consistently — free from the dust, moisture and temperature variables that affect on-site application. For quantities beyond a few square metres, it is also the most economical option, replacing the variable costs of on-site labour, equipment, materials and scaffolding with a fixed price.
Easy maintenance
Maintaining oil-coated cladding is straightforward. Regular cleaning (to remove bird-mess, cobwebs etc.) can be performed with soapy water and a soft brush, which will extend the lifetime of the coating. When it comes to more in-depth maintenance, it is recommended you inspect the timber at least annually to determine when reapplication is required. Reapplication is a straightforward process, which involves cleaning and reapplication with a brush or roller and can usually be carried out on a DIY basis without any specialist skill or experience. End sealing with exterior oil is highly recommended for cut or exposed end grain to reduce vulnerability to moisture ingress.
