At 3 to 8 metres in length, Douglas fir flooring boards are long enough to span an entire room without any joins. In addition to being long, the boards are exceptionally wide at 350 mm, which helps create a calm, airy ambience in any room.
The boards come prefinished with hardwax oil, which accentuates the tonal variation between the early and late wood. As well as adding to the stunning visual effect, the wax oil improves the flooring’s durability and helps to make maintenance straightforward.
Douglas fir wood flooring is as pleasing to the feet as it is to the eye: boards are engineered rather than solid, making them compatible with underfloor heating. This engineering also gives the wide boards increased stability.
Since Douglas fir grows more quickly than oak, it’s a sustainable choice for your floors. The species originated in North America but now grows sustainably in the UK and Europe. We source our Douglas fir flooring from a specialist supplier in Europe that combines 100 years of milling experience with state-of-the-art equipment and meticulous finishing techniques.

Grades
All Russwood flooring is manufactured using high-quality raw material. This ensures that grade selection is entirely an aesthetic choice rather than a reflection of performance or durability. Each timber species has a unique grading system that highlights different aspects of the wood’s natural character, from clean and uniform boards to highly expressive ones with knots and figuring. Our European Oak flooring comes in 3 distinctively different grade options.
Character Grade

Character Grade offers the most expressive look, showcasing the woods natural characteristics. Expect:
- Natural and rustic, ideal for a relaxed country core aesthetic or statement flooring
- A blend of sizeable, sound filled knots, checks and splits
- Lively figuring
Prime Grade

A balanced and refined grade, offering subtle character. Expect:
- Carefully selected boards, featuring small to medium sized knots
- A more uniform appearance, ideal for contemporary and minimalist spaces
- Delicate figuring
Prime Plus Grade

Our cleanest oak grade, ideal for ultra-modern or Scandinavian-style interiors. Expect:
- Exceptionally clear boards with only pinhole knots
- Blend of calm vertical and flame-like figuring
- Consistency in tone and figuring for a sleek, elegant finish
