At the end of January, Russwood partnered with Benholm Group to host Rooted – a calming morning of yoga and wellness at Material Source Studio Scotland. Designed as a gentle reset at the start of the year, we invited architects, designers and creatives to slow down, reconnect and take a moment for their own wellbeing – something that can often be overlooked during one of the industry’s busiest periods.

A restorative start to the day

Set within the inspiring surroundings of Material Source Studio, guests took part in a beginner-friendly yoga session followed by a soothing sound bath, guided by Yoga Meditation Healing. The session focused on grounding, reflection and finding clarity for the year ahead, offering a calm contrast to the pace of everyday practice.

Afterwards, attendees were encouraged to stay, unwind and connect over matcha lattes from Pineapple Espresso, alongside fresh juice and vegan pastries from The Dorky French

Shared values, natural materials

Rooted was shaped by a shared belief between Russwood and Benholm Group: that great design is closely connected to wellbeing. Both organisations champion natural materials, biophilic design principles and long-term value creating environments that support how people feel, not just how spaces look. You can read more about the partnership here.

Material Source Studio provided the perfect setting for this collaboration. As a space designed to inspire, connect and support the design community, it allowed guests to experience first-hand how timber, greenery and carefully considered materials can positively influence wellbeing and creativity in the built environment.

Supporting the design community

Supporting the design community has always been an important part of what we do at Russwood. Creating space to slow down, catch up with peers and step away from screens for an hour felt especially important at the start of the year.

The morning was relaxed and informal, with plenty of conversation over matchas and pastries once the session wrapped up. The feedback was really positive, and it was great to see both familiar and new faces in the Studio.

Working with Benholm Group felt like a natural partnership for us, and Rooted was a reminder that good design starts with feeling good. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing the event together, and to all who joined us – we hope to see you again soon.
