Introducing Lunawood Collection: a contemporary timber cladding solution
Russwood are proud to be partnering with Lunawood to offer a new range of contemporary timber cladding solutions to the UK specification market. Lunawood Collection is based on Scandinavian design combined with the best technical properties of thermally modified wood – all to meet the needs of modern architecture. In this blog, Charlotte Wark, Russwood Architectural Liaison Technician and our in-house Lunawood expert, takes us through an overview of the Lunawood Collection, its ideal application and its benefits.
Nordic Roots
Lunawood are pioneers in the thermally modified wood world, with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Founded in Finland, Lunawood take great pride in their Nordic roots, especially as timber is such an integral part of Scandinavian and Nordic design. Lunawood aim to bring nature back into the urban realm and do so without using any harsh chemicals – just heat, steam, and pressure.
Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Russwood, so it’s important to us that companies we work with also carry these values. Lunawood’s raw material is PEFC™ certified, meaning it comes from well-managed, sustainable forests. Where one tree is cut, Lunawood seed four new ones, ensuring that more carbon is absorbed than emitted.

Lunawood Collection
The Lunawood Collection is made up of 6 unique profiles, chosen to meet the needs of architects, contractors, and self-builders across the country. With these 6 profiles being held as stock, there is no minimum order or long lead time required to achieve a luxurious finish with the added benefit of high stability and durability.

The thermal modification of the timber ensures high stability and durability throughout the full cross-section which gives the Lunawood Collection a wide range of applications. All products in the Lunawood Collection are supplied uncoated, initially appearing a warm caramel brown, soon weathering out to a lovely silvery grey when used in an exterior application.
Applications
It’s important to understand the requirements of a project when specifying timber cladding. Each profile in the Lunawood Collection will be suitable for a different project, it all depends on the kind of look you want to achieve. The Luna Triple, Luna Trio, and Luna Parallelogram SSS are the ideal products for a sleek and contemporary design. For a project looking for variety and texture in the façade, the Luna Panel System would be my go-to recommendation.

Triple & Trio

Narrow boards are a great way to achieve a sleek, modern design but the pace of installation is often slow. The Luna Triple and Luna Trio are great options to achieve a similar batten-style appearance with the ease of installing a tongue & groove board. Both profiles have two-deep grooves which give a batten-style effect. The Lunawood Triple is a thicker profile, ideal for a more pronounced batten appearance and great for use in soffits. The Lunawood Trio is a slightly smaller profile, great for creating a delicate and textured finish. The profile shape of the Luna Triple and Luna Trio helps to tone down the knotty appearance of the timber and creates a contemporary look.
Panel System

The Luna Panel System is a great set of profiles if looking for a bit more variation in the façade. Made up of 3 tongue & groove profiles measuring 117 x 19mm, 68 x 19mm, and 68 x 42mm, the Panel System is designed to create a mixed width and fin-style appearance.
Luna Parallelogram SSS

The Luna Parallelogram SSS is a rhombus-shaped profile, great for use in vertical or horizontal open-rainscreen arrangements. The shape of the profile allows for water to shed off easily, reducing the risk of standing water and moisture ingress. This narrow profile is ideal for projects looking to create a modern open rainscreen design.
Interiors

The Luna Triple, Luna Trio, and Luna Panel System can all be used in interior applications as well as exterior. The all-natural and non-toxic advantages of the Lunawood Collection make it the perfect set of products for interior use. Interior timber cladding is a great way to create a cosy and luxurious space, with the acoustic properties of timber also helping to reduce noise.
