Fins & screening

Timber fins offer a striking way to add depth, rhythm, and architectural interest to building façades and outdoor spaces. Used for both functional screening and aesthetic detailing, fins can provide solar shading, privacy, or simply a refined, linear look. As a sustainable, renewable alternative to aluminium or fibre-cement fins, timber brings natural warmth, texture and environmental benefits to your design. At Russwood, we supply high-quality timber fins, allowing you to tailor the size, species, and finish to suit your specific project requirements. Whether used alone or in combination with cladding, our fins help create beautifully crafted, cohesive designs with natural warmth and texture.

Species and sizes

At Russwood, fins are typically specified on a per-project basis, in collaboration with our team. We regularly produce fins from the following materials and dimensions:

Minimum thickness guidelines

To ensure structural stability and safe fixing, we recommend a minimum thickness of 42mm for modified timbers (such as Lunawood, Thermopine® and Abodo®) and 63mm for Scotlarch®. These dimensions are based on best practice, ensuring that screw fixings are positioned at least four times their diameter from the edge of the fin.

Surface finishes

Russwood fins can be finished in a range of surface textures, including brushed, planed, skimmed, and Microtex®. If fins are being used alongside cladding, selecting a matching surface finish can help achieve a consistent and cohesive appearance across your project. Our team can advise on the best options to align with your chosen aesthetic and fin dimensions.

Fin fixings

We also offer specialist hidden fixings for fins through our FinFix® and SIHGA LamellenFix® systems. These provide a secure and aesthetically clean solution, allowing uninterrupted timber surfaces and seamless integration into your design.
