What I’ve learned in six months working at Russwood

We’re delighted to share the perspective of one of our newest team members, Marketing Assistant Connor, who has recently settled into life at Russwood. In this blog, Connor reflects on his first few months with us, sharing his experiences, the skills he’s developed, and what it’s like to work here. He also highlights some of the exciting opportunities available at Russwood, including current vacancies and why our workplace could be the perfect fit for you.
My role and experience
Hi, I’m Connor. I recently joined Russwood as Marketing Assistant, and I create and schedule content for our social media channels and newsletter. I was drawn to the marketing role having just graduated with a degree in Multimedia Journalism from Glasgow Caledonian University. It sounded like a great opportunity to put my content creation skills to good use. I’d also covered lots of news stories throughout my studies which focused on the environment. As environment was one of Russwood’s values, I felt like both the role and the company seemed like a good fit for what I’d learned at university.


Where I work
I’m based in Russwood’s Glasgow office, alongside my colleague Zoë in marketing, and members of Sales, R&D, and Architectural Liaison and Interior Project Liaison teams. Russwood only moved in to the building, which is on Candleriggs, earlier this year so it has been nice to see the new office taking shape! I regularly travel up to our Newtonmore office to catch-up with the rest of the team, including my line manager, Fiona and marketing colleague Amy. As well as being Russwood’s head office, where the rest of the office team is based, Newtonmore is also where all the production magic happens at our on-site sawmill, planing mill, and coating line.

If you are interested in joining our team, we currently have four vacancies across our teams:
- Production Operative (Newtonmore): Join our friendly production team to help grade, prepare and assist with orders. You’ll work across various areas, including our sawmill, paint-line, planing mill, flooring department and despatch area, gaining experience in a range of tasks.
- Production Administration Assistant (Newtonmore): Support our Production Manager with a range of tasks, including working on continuous improvement projects to meet Russwood’s strategic aims. This is a great role for someone who enjoys organisation and process improvement. (Position now filled)
- Customer Experience Lead (Glasgow or Newtonmore): Oversee the day-to-day operations of our Newtonmore and Glasgow offices while liaising with customers, architects, and business partners. As the first and last point of contact with our visitors, you’ll ensure smooth operations and maintain Russwood’s exceptional standards. (Position now filled)
- Cladding and Decking Sales Advisor (Glasgow or Newtonmore): Join our Cladding and Decking Sales Team to help customers select the right products for their needs. You’ll answer questions about cladding, decking, and fixings, and provide guidance on product performance. (Position now filled)
