From mood to material: a creative launch event for the Signature Collection
To mark the launch of our new Signature Collection flooring range, we invited a group of interior designers and architects to join us for a one-of-a-kind evening of scent, texture, and creativity. Held at Material Source Glasgow, the Signature Scent Experience was a sensory-led event designed to bring our oak flooring range to life in a creative and inspiring way.

A premium launch with a personal touch
The Signature Collection represents the very best of Russwood: a curated range of oak flooring finishes that combine tone, texture, and craftsmanship. We knew this launch needed to go beyond a traditional showcase, offering our design-led audience a meaningful and memorable way to experience the collection. The answer? A candle-making and mood boarding workshop, built around the idea of engaging the senses and sparking the imagination.
Candle-making with Can to Candle
Guests began the evening with a guided candle-making session delivered by the brilliant Kerry from Edinburgh-based Can to Candle. Each attendee created their own timber-inspired scent, drawing on the earthy, smoky and amber tones found within the Signature Collection. It was a relaxing and hands-on way to start the evening. If only smell-a-vision were a real thing!

The mood board challenge: designed by you
As the candles were setting, guests were paired up and given a surprise challenge: to create a mood board using a randomly selected flooring sample from the Signature Collection. With their handcrafted candle as inspiration, foraged natural elements on hand, and the full materials library at Material Source Glasgow at their fingertips, they had just 20 minutes to build a concept that captured the tone, emotion, and character of their floor.
From forest-inspired palettes to cosy Japandi schemes, each team brought their own unique interpretation to life. Here are the highlights:
- Ashley (Afta Interiors) & Rebecca (Graham + Sibbald) – ’90: “We had Signature ‘90 with visible grain — it reminded us of a live edge dining table. We imagined a view of the coast, so we went for warm tones and contrast — modern coastal vibes.”
- Jennifer (CRGP) & Caragh (WSP) – ’91: “We had a slightly darker, warmer grain and leaned into forest tones — neutrals, greens and rusts for a tonal, organic feel.”
- Nia (Nia Walker Interiors) & Dion (ECD Architects) – ’92: “We started in one direction and went completely in the other! We had the darkest floor of the collection (’92) and we wanted to bring out the warmth — a take on Japandi that’s soft, cosy and comforting, like a hallway or shared space.”
- Megan & Jemma (GSA Interior Design Graduates) – ’93: “We imagined the lifecycle of a tree — dark, warm and tranquil. The amber scent inspired a calming, acoustic space.”
- Patrycja & Daisy (Interior Design Graduates) – ’94: “We’re not minimalists, so we started with green — it goes with everything! We layered colour and texture to bring softness, warmth and a bit of gold for a pop.”
- Eliana (Holmes Miller) & Ellie – Douglas Fir: “Minimalist floor, Barbie beach energy — driftwood tones, coral accents, and shell-like marbles.”
- Russwood Interiors Team – ’90: “Using Signature ’90 as our base, we embraced natural textures and biophilic elements with warm, earthy tones. The Luna Trio adds a modern yet comforting touch.”

Celebrating collaboration and creativity
As the final step, each team presented their mood board to the group, sharing their design thinking and inspiration. It was a fantastic way to celebrate collaboration, with each duo offering a fresh, imaginative take on how to interpret timber in interior spaces. It also highlighted the versatility of the Signature Collection – proving that each floor has a personality and story waiting to be discovered.
