About the London Festival of Architecture

The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) is an annual celebration of architecture and city-making. Taking place across London, the month-long event brings architects and built environment professionals together with the public to open up discussions, test new ideas and promote new talent. What makes the festival unique is that the programme is crafted by the event organisers: people who live, shape and truly know London, ensuring a creative and varied schedule of events.

The theme for LFA 2024 is reimagine. The theme urges us to collaborate on pressing urban challenges, fostering innovative solutions for a more equitable and sustainable city. We cannot reset the clock, but we can reflect, rethink, repair, and rebuild.

Our panel discussion: Inside the box – timber’s role in modular construction

We’ll be exploring the theme of reimagine, during an insightful panel discussion with timber experts from Russwood, Waugh Thistleton Architects and Ecosystems Technologies. During this expert insight into the future of timber’s relationship with modular design attendees will learn more about how modular construction provides a cost-efficient, reliable, and sustainable alternative to standard construction methods.

As unsustainable construction methods rise as key issues, along with construction costs and housing inequalities, modular design and construction, particularly with timber, offers a clear solution. Timber provides a sustainable, flexible, and cost-effective option which meets the needs of modern architecture and society. With its ability to capture 1 tonne of CO2 per m3 of sawn lumber, it is stark contrast to the 8% of CO2 production worldwide attributed to cement production.
