How Russwood supports contractors with streamlined solutions

5 min read

We all know how quickly small delays snowball on site. A missing box of fixings, a last-minute dash for extra battens, or worse – materials that don’t meet spec. Suddenly, what should’ve been a straightforward job eats into your time and profit. At Russwood, we’ve built our offering around making life easier for contractors. From site-ready products to expert technical support and everything in between, our goal is to help you keep projects moving efficiently and with less risk.

A one stop-shop for timber solutions

We provide a one-stop solution for cladding, decking, flooring, fixings, coatings, and fire treatments, all researched and tested by our in-house Research and Development team for performance, durability, and ease of installation.

Our systems are designed to maximise efficiency on site and ensure long-term results you can rely on. Coatings especially, are thoroughly tested with various surface preparations and in conjunction with fire treatment to ensure they will perform as expected, with the best possible lifespan and the simplest reapplication processes for end user satisfaction.

Quality you can trust

Quality control is built into everything we supply. Timber grading isn’t just a technicality – it’s a crucial part of delivering products that meet both our own high standards and our customers’ expectations. The grading criteria depend on factors like the species, end use, and whether the timber is modified, coated, or left untreated. The working face is left entirely sapwood free on all our timber. We ensure that every board that arrives on site is fully usable – reducing waste, saving time, and cutting down on the dreaded snagging list.

Timber arrives site-ready: precisely machined, clearly labelled, and, where specified, factory-coated. Factory coating provides a consistent, high-quality finish while saving time and hassle on site – there’s no need to wait for dry weather or ideal conditions to apply coatings manually.

Technical support that keeps projects moving

Our Architect Liaison and Sales teams support your project from early design through to installation and ongoing maintenance.

The Architect Liaison Team works closely with you to refine the specification and identify the most suitable cladding solution based on your project’s technical requirements and design goals. We provide detailed build-up drawings and a wide range of standard details, including corners, windows, and door junctions, to streamline the design process.

Once the specification is in place, providing our Sales team with accurate cladding quantities allows us to calculate the required fixings, battens, and accessories. This helps minimise costly over-ordering while ensuring you’re fully covered on-site.

With expertise in architectural technology, engineering, design, and carpentry, our team brings practical, informed support to every stage of your project.

Reduced risk, increased efficiency

In addition to product performance and expert support, Russwood is committed to responsible sourcing and quality assurance.

We encourage you to look for timber products that are responsibly and ethically sourced — certifications such as FSC® or PEFC™ can offer peace of mind that sustainability standards are being met. Further to this, many of Russwood’s products are supported by third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), providing transparent data on environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle.

Our ISO 9001 certification underlines our dedication to continuous improvement and consistent quality across every aspect of our operations — giving contractors added confidence that what arrives on site meets both environmental standards and the highest levels of reliability.

Coatings and fire treatment

When it comes to fire safety, we use Burnblock®, a non-toxic, environmentally friendly fire retardant that meets the highest European standards without compromising on health or performance. All fire-retardant treated timber is clearly marked and documented, so there’s no confusion on site – ensuring the right materials are used in the right places.

Our in-house processes guarantee full traceability and compliance, giving you and your clients peace of mind while keeping installation smooth and straightforward.

As the only approved UK applicators of both SiOO:X and Euroclass B-rated Burnblock®, we ensure these treatments are applied under strictly controlled conditions for optimal performance and consistency. To maximise coating adhesion and durability, we machine-profile timber with our Microtex® surface finish, a fine-textured surface that enhances the bond between timber and coating. This attention to detail means longer-lasting protection, a more uniform weathered appearance, and minimal maintenance for your clients.

Why contractors choose Russwood

At Russwood, we support contractors with more than just materials, we deliver smart, reliable solutions that help you work more efficiently and with less risk. By offering a high-quality range of products, designed to work together seamlessly, we eliminate the guesswork and reduce the chance of costly errors or delays. Ordering from one trusted source means fewer suppliers to coordinate, better compatibility across systems, and streamlined delivery to keep your project moving.

Our dedicated delivery service is a key part of what sets us apart. Whether your site is in a remote corner of Skye or the centre of London, Russwood ensures that your timber products arrive safely, on time, and with minimal hassle. Unlike many suppliers who rely solely on third-party logistics, we operate our own Russwood lorries for deliveries in Scotland, giving us greater control over timing, care, and communication. Our delivery drivers — like the ever-popular Big Mac — are experienced, friendly, and briefed in advance on access restrictions, making deliveries smoother and more dependable for contractors. For England and wider UK deliveries, we work with a trusted haulage partner operating large flatbed units with HIAB cranes for efficient off-loading – placing your timber exactly where you need it.

From early-stage specification through to on-site execution and long-term performance, we’re here to make your job easier, saving you time, reducing snagging, and protecting your bottom line.
